Clearly, the CRTC is misinterpreting the objections I have been sending to them, dating back 3-4 years, about the generalized and content of TV and radio newscasts that sensationalize violence.
Below is my response of today to Ms. Courteau, in an attempt to re-clarify my objection and to apprise her about Choose News.

Re: Your complaint concerning daily violence on the news
Hello Ms Courteau,
Thank you for your reply.
I believe the CRTC and the CBSC are ignoring or misunderstanding my objection.
It is not my intention to document individual newscasts from the past 28 days, per your request.
My objection is to the sensationalization of violence that occurs daily, hour after hour on most if not all mainstream TV and radio newscasts.
This would be that which occurs on every TV and radio newscast in the past 12-24 months sensationalizing murder(s), rape, beheadings, kidnappings, acts of terror, plane and vehicle crashes, spousal abuse, fire, natural disasters, and other acts of mayhem and abuse. This is happening in contravention to the Violence Code of 1993 and principle 1.2.2 which states that “children not be exposed to programming that is unsuitable for them."
Mainstream broadcasters in Canada (CBC, CTV, Global, and their affiliate stations) have adopted a business model that too-often trades in ‘violence, mayhem and grue’, and Canadian children are suffering a health risk, as a result.
Clearly, mainstream broadcasters are ignoring the Violence Code and also failing to update and strengthen it with new insights that reflect new insights into safeguarding the mental and emotional health of Canadian children.
For your information, on May 1, coincident with Mental Health Week across Canada, I launched 'Choose News’ a national advocacy campaign to help reduce the violent content of TV and Radio newscasts, to help protect the mental and emotional health of children. You may view the website and petition to the CRTC and the CAB that is linked into the website, at www.choosenews.org.
You will see the petition is live and now garnering signatures from citizens and representatives of the medical and counselling communities.
