Titled 'CBC Kids News', the site focuses on providing daily, but not mainstream, news for kids likely in the age range 7 - 13 years or so. For content the site helps to explain items and profile kids and issues that are newsworthy. In design it has a colourful layout without being garish.
There are few to no stories on 'Kids News' that links to daily mainstream news and the content takes a very wide swerve away from the ghoulish and gruesome.
CBC is to be congratulated on launching this service; that said, it is still appropriate for CBC to join with the CRTC and the Candian Association of Broadcasters in convening and addressing the outdated 'Violence Code' that does nothing to prevent mainstream media's daily tsunami of excessively violent TV and radio news content that remains inappropriate for young children to consume.
If you haven't done so, please sign the Choose News petition to reduce TV and radio news violence and better protect the mental health of Canadian children. Just click on the 'Petition' tab and follow the link. And Thanks for helping make a difference in this campaign!
